    Bananas, Cola, Contemporary History: the successful recipe of Oliver Rathkolb, one of the most renowned and tireless Austrian contemporary historians. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, nine students dedicate a festschrift to him, which includes scientific contributions from Austrian and international colleagues as well as personal reflections from companions in science and politics. Reflecting the broad areas of work and interest of Oliver Rathkolb, the topics range from the history of the paradoxical Republic of Austria to the Cold War, National Socialism and its reception, as well as other aspects of historical dictatorship and transformation research, to reflections on art, culture, history politics, and the field of contemporary history itself. Various historical processes and actors are examined from regional, transnational, and global perspectives. Ultimately, the main protagonist is the long, and to use a key term from Rathkolb, exciting 20th century, which the contemporary historian has been engaging with since the beginning of his work.
