Strangers at the German shores

More and more algae and invertebrates from overseas have been introduced to German coastal waters. They integrate by modifying the functions of ecosystems in the North and Baltic Sea. One may regret this change in nature, and remaining risks require precautionary prevention. On the other hand, some may support adjustments of ecological webs to ongoing global change. This book offers help in identification and watching the fate of these newcomers. – Karsten Reise and Dagmar Lackschewitz have been researchers at the Wadden Sea Station on Sylt, belonging to the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI).
