In 2030, the global population will reach eight billion, with two-thirds living in cities, many in poverty. This rapid urban growth presents significant challenges, requiring collaboration among city authorities, urban planners, economists, and others to prevent social and economic crises. To address these issues, The Museum of Modern Art introduces a project focused on tactical urbanism in expanding megacities, part of its 'Issues in Contemporary Architecture' series. Following successful initiatives like Rising Currents and Foreclosed, this project engages an international group of scholars and practitioners through workshops, an exhibition, and a publication. The focus is on how innovative urban strategies can combat rising inequality in urban development worldwide. Proposals for six major cities—New York, Mumbai, Rio de Janeiro, Istanbul, Hong Kong, and Lagos—are developed by teams that combine local expertise with international insights. The project documents brainstorming sessions and workshops, featuring interviews and essays from leading scholars, making it a valuable resource for students and professionals while promoting global change.
