En savoir plus sur le livre

The World of Bosch sketches a clear picture of the world in which Jeroen Bosch (c. 1450-1516) lived, and at the same time gives broad attention to the world he created. The world famous painter Jheronimus Bosch, better known as Jeroen Bosch, continues to fascinate with his great imaginative power. He created the nearly tangible realities of "The Garden of Earthly Delights" as well as "The Realm of Darkness". His charming landscapes alternate with frightening, monstrous creatures. The Late Middle Ages, the era in which Bosch lived, was a period of great contradictions indeed, in which the smells of blood and of roses were intermingled. The World of Bosch looks at the painter's place of residence, 's-Hertogenbosch, a lively tow in Burgundian Brabant. With this the authors have asked themselves questions Did the town inspire him to paint countless magnificent works? Was he a genial, solitary individual or was he in touch with kindred artists? To what extent was he appreciated as an inimitable artist in that period and in the centuries that followed? The - contains colour reproductions of all the paintings attributed to Bosch; - positions the masterpainter in the late medieval urban society; - gives concise (and if possible updated) analyses of his work; - represents life in a late medieval Burgundian town; - draws upon new research.
