Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtova have dedicated nearly fifty years to the art of casting large sculptures from delicately colored glass, establishing themselves as leading figures in this medium. Their latest work, showcased in The Inner Light, highlights their mastery of the complex technical and aesthetic demands of glass. They skillfully manipulate the material's unique properties, employing changes in surface treatment, intersecting planes, and voids to control how light interacts with their sculptures, enhancing the viewer's experience. Robert Kehlmann contextualizes their aesthetic within the Czech intellectual and artistic landscape, emphasizing the influence of Czech cubism on their development. His essay examines their recent monumental forms, which explore themes of life, death, and the afterlife.
