En savoir plus sur le livre

Legal English Communication Skills is intended for Dutch law students and legal professionals aspiring to upgrade their mastery of general English as well as to extend it to the legal field. Combining brief theoretical discussion with largely process-driven practice materials, the book aims to foster (autonomous) acquisition of advanced language learning skills. Learners are encouraged to apply these to improve their effectiveness in writing and in exploring new vocabulary. Frequent reference is made to relevant Internet sources to take learning beyond the confines of the book. Through a variety of cloze and open-ended writing tasks the book helps the learner to come to terms with the requirements of professional writing. Particular attention is paid to summary, email, report and letter writing. Vocabulary is presented in authentic contexts drawn from various sources ranging from formal legal literature to informal Internet documents. The topics explored relate inter alia to the fields of state organs, the court system, contract, employment, intellectual property and human rights.
