En savoir plus sur le livre

Written by a former Hunslet employee with 40 years experience at the firm, this book is a fascinating history of the the firm. Starting with a survey of Leeds as an early major railway manufacturing center and looking at Murray's Middleton locomotives, it then covers in detail the industrial, narrow and standard gauge locomotives with which Hunslet and Leeds subsequently became synonymous. It also describes the effect on the firm of the expanding British Empire, repeated wars, and political influence. There are also chapters on non-railway products, electric train building, and the closure of the old plant. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos (many never before published), maps, and plans of the works. 305 pages with index.
