As the twentieth century concludes, it is crucial to assess the current state of Romanian studies and explore future research directions for the new millennium. This volume compiles studies presented by Romanian, British, and American scholars at the Fifth International Conference of the Center for Romanian Studies, held in Iasi, Romania, from June 28 to July 1, 1999.
