Martin Hilpert combines construction grammar and advanced corpus-based methodology into a new way of studying language change. Constructions are generalizations over remembered exemplars of language use. These exemplars are stored with all their formal and functional properties, yielding constructional generalizations that contain many parameters of variation. Over time, as patterns of language use are changing, the generalizations are changing with them. This book illustrates the workings of constructional change with three corpus-based studies that reveal patterns of change at several levels of linguistic structure, ranging from allomorphy to word formation and to syntax. Taken together, the results strongly motivate the use of construction grammar in research on diachronic language change. This new perspective has wide-ranging consequences for the way historical linguists think about language change. It will be of particular interest to linguists working on morpho-syntax, sociolinguistics and corpus linguistics.

Construction Grammar explains how knowledge of language is organized in speakers' minds. The central and radical claim of Construction Grammar is that linguistic knowledge can be fully described as knowledge of constructions, which are defined as symbolic units that connect a linguistic form with meaning.

This book offers a survey of current work in Nordic and General Linguistics, with a special focus on language contact. The papers in this book were presented at the 11th International Conference of Nordic and General Linguistics (ICNGL) in Freiburg. The ICNGL conference series aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas on Scandinavian and other languages, between researchers from the Nordic countries and elsewhere. The present volume focuses on language contact, which has always been a topic of great interest in Nordic Linguistics. Additionally, the contributions in this book address issues of phonology, morpho-syntax, syntax, and grammaticalization. The book is meant to be a snapshot of Nordic Linguistics as it is practiced today, reflecting at the same time its established research traditions as well as its forages into new methodologies and theories.

Die Arbeit untersucht die Entstehungsbedingungen der Jüdischen Jugendbewegung im frühen 20. Jahrhundert vor dem Hintergrund des wachsenden Antisemitismus in Deutschland. Sie beleuchtet die gesellschaftspolitische Situation und die antisemitischen Strömungen innerhalb der allgemeinen deutschen Jugendbewegung. Zudem wird aufgezeigt, wie jüdische Gemeinschaften auf den erstarkenden Antisemitismus reagierten und postassimilatorische Strömungen entwickelten. Der Fokus liegt auf dem größten jüdischen Wanderbund Blau-Weiß, um die Entwicklung einer zionistischen Jugendorganisation zu analysieren.
