Although the Finnish painter Helene Schjerfbeck was one of Scandinavia’s most important artists, however outside her own region, she is virtually unknown. For a comprehensive retrospective in Hamburg, The Hague, and Paris, more than 120 of her works have been brought together from more than 40 international private and public collections. Thus, this book, a catalogue of the retrospective, is the first monograph about the fascinating art of Schjerfbeck.
