This artist's book is a kind of architectural guide through the history of the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. One emphasis is the relationship between Ethiopia and East Germany, with pictures of the former East German diplomatic representative and the ambassador's villa, as well as the Karl Marx memorial in Addis Ababa, created by Jo Jastram and Peter Baumbach, to which Meise dedicates a whole chapter with thus far unpublished historical photos.

Michaela Meise works across video, drawing, performance, and sculpture, exploring sculptural and architectural principles in both creative execution and their political and social contexts. This publication highlights two of her work groups: one focuses on inanimate objects, while the other centers on the human body. Meise’s sculptures are integral to an everyday world of objects, which she perceives as repositories of cultural and social information. Her often sketch-like and intentionally unfinished pieces convey a sense of rough, incomplete memories, reflecting the complexities of human experience and the narratives embedded within the material world.
