Nabízí nám něco mnohem lepšího a úplně odlišný způsob poznání: intimní vztah, cestu tmou, stezku, na které si sami pro sebe musíme objevit, že milost, láska, milosrdenství a odpuštění jsou absolutně nezbytné pro přežití - ve světě vždy a navždy nejistém. Potřebujete jenom dostatek moudrosti a zakotvení, abyste věděli, jak žít bez jistoty! Ano, my skutečně jsme spaseni vírou. Lidé žijící tímto způsobem nikdy nepřestanou růst, jen tak snadno se nezlomí a je opravdu radost s nimi žít. Což opravdu strašlivou povahu zla zdaleka nevystihuje. Proto jsme o hřích ztratili zájem. Ztratili jsme zájem také proto, že jsme slovo hřích obvykle slyšeli používat k tomu, aby někdo někoho soudil, vylučoval či ovládal nebo aby zahanbil a ovládal sám sebe, ale málokdy aby vnesl do lidské situace rozlišení nebo hlubší porozumění, tím spíš aby projevil soucit nebo odpuštění. Vnímám to tak, že čím víc je náboženství nebo kultura posedlé hříchem, tím víc nemilující a kognitivně strnulí jsou jeho příslušníci. Vzpomeňte si na kultury založené na zahanbování v mnoha čistě islámských zemích, úzkoprsé a kulturně nekritické formy judaismu, nepřítomnost humoru v kalvinistické Ženevě, krutost velké části puritánské Nové Anglie, nemilosrdné náboženství mnoha luteránů a inkvizitorství španělského a vůbec většiny lidového katolicismu.
