Přátelé John a Gibson se vydají na cestu do Mexika, kde by se měl Gibson ujmout vedení farmy a mladý John by tam mohl získat nové zkušenosti a upevnit si své zdraví. Ve vlaku se seznámí s kameramanem Ottou Brokdorfem, díky němuž John pozná prostředí Holywoodu. Gibson je nucen dvojici předčasně opustit. Když se po čase s Johnem opět shledá, vypráví mu o přepadení, při kterém on sám byl postřelen. Zásahem osudu se s vůdcem lupičů oba znovu setkají za zcela nečekaných okolností - při natáčení filmu na mexické farmě.
