River of Doubt is inspired by a true story. The time is February 1914. An expedition heads down an unknown river in the heart of Brazil's Amazon. The ex-US President THEODORE ROOSEVELT, still a "Bull Moose" at 54, a man of seemingly unquenchable strength and character impervious to doubt; and COLONEL CANDIDO RONDON, Brazil's greatest explorer, renowned for having never failed on a expedition. Also along are KERMIT ROOSEVELT, Roosevelt's 24-year-old son, called Bwana Dandy for his expensive taste in clothes and elegant manners and speech; GEORGE K. CHERRIE, a New England naturalist; and Rondon's lieutenant LYRA, a fiery and impulsive man who resents the presence of the Roosevelts. None suspect what trials and dangers await them on the newly christened "River of Doubt." Some will not survive. Some will be changed forever. And others will be haunted for the rest of their lives.

It's 1879 and southern Arizona lives in fear of John Loco and his marauding band of Comancheros. The task of subduing the raiders falls to the US 9th Cavalry and its new band of recruits, among them Hal Jones, a wide-eyed sharecropper's son; Zach Burley, a crack shot who detests the Army; Tyrone Wood, a great horseman who lacks discipline; and Harris Harris, called «Luv» for what he's good at, and it isn't soldiering. Will the territory go up in flames, or can young Lt. Gatewood and grizzled veteran Sergeant Wright mold this ragged bunch into fighting men worthy of the «right proud» tradition of the Buffalo Soldiers?RIGHT PROUD. THE BUFFALO SOLDIERS is a story based on authentic American history. With illustrations by Western artist Frederic Remington, it blends action, humor, colorful characters and drama in the style of John Ford's classic films.
