      L'histoire commence avec Kendra, âgée de 13 ans et Seth, âgé de 11 ans qui rendent visite à leurs grands-parents au Connecticut pour une durée de 17 jours. Leurs parents profitent pendant ce temps d'une croisière en Scandinavie. Les enfants se divertissent grâce à un grenier rempli de livres et de jouets, une cabane dans un arbre avec une vue spéciale, une piscine entourée de papillons colorés et des libellules exotiques. Mais rapidement, leur attention se porte sur la forêt interdite qui entoure la maison des grands-parents. Quand Kendra découvre le livre intitulé ##Journal des secrets## qui lui dit de "Boire du lait", un tout nouveau monde incroyable est révélé, caché au Fablehaven.
