For the first time, Afrikaans Art Song Literature gathers together some of the most beloved Afrikaans art songs with translations and pronunciation guides to make them accessible to non-native speakers outside South Africa. Each song includes original International Phonetic Alphabet transcriptions and word-for-word translations in English to enable musicians to teach and perform this little-known repertoire. The authors also provide a brief history of Afrikaans Art Song literature, information on poets and composers, and explanations about the unique geography, culture, landscapes, and peoples of South Africa.
