Joanna Cole était une auteure de livres pour enfants et une enseignante de sciences. Elle est surtout connue comme l'auteure de la série de livres pour enfants The Magic School Bus. Enfant, elle aimait la science et avait une enseignante qui lui rappelait Mme Frizzle. Elle est diplômée du City College de New York avec un baccalauréat en psychologie.
