Krátce poté lord umírá a Skylar odjíždí na jeho farmu v Dakotě. Je novomanželka, a přece vdova. Už to je dostatečně znepokojivé pomyšlení, ale největší šok na Skylar teprve čeká: její dostavník je přepaden a ona skončí v dřevěném domku s únoscem, z něhož se vyklube syn lorda Douglase – a podle oddacího listu i její právoplatný manžel! Starý pán to jistě myslel dobře, ale skutečnost se od jeho představ povážlivě liší. Skylar drásá vědomí, že se nestala uznávanou dámou, nýbrž chotí divocha.
