Robert Goff Livres

Ahmed Alsoudani (*1975 in Bagdad) kam 1999 in die USA, um politisches Asyl zu suchen. Seine von Gewalt erfüllten Gemälde und Zeichnungen reflektieren die schwierigen Zeitumstände im Irak und stehen in einer langen Tradition bildender Kunst zum Thema Krieg und Grausamkeit. In seiner Arbeit bezieht er sich auf europäische Werke aus dem 17. und 18. Jahrhundert und auf Maler wie Francisco de Goya, Pablo Picasso, Georg Grosz, Francis Bacon und Philip Guston. Alsoudani verarbeitet zudem Anregungen aus Kunst, Literatur und besonders der Lyrik des Nahen Ostens, etwa das Werk des Libanesen Abbas Beydoun. Seine Gemälde finden im Westen große Beachtung; Charles Saatchi kaufte mehrere Bilder für seine Sammlung. Alsoudani schloss sein Studium der Malerei 2008 an der Yale University ab.
