Beginning with a prologue by Steven Holl, this is an updated and enlarged selection of the articles and projects initially published in the Hybrids series of a+t magazine, this comprehensive overview of hybrid buildings in the 21st century seeks to uncover their potential and applications in the wider realm of architecture and urbanism. Along with a prologue by Steven Holl, written specially for this compilation, the book presents research on new prototypes conducted by Iñaki Ábalos, texts by Martin Musiatowicz, Javier Mozas, Aurora Fernández Per and others, plus exemplary works by Ábalos+Sentkiewicz, Herzog & de Meuron, Jean Nouvel, MVRDV, OMA, Stan Allen, RCR Arquitectes and more.

This new volume by a+t architecture publishers is part of the Density series on collective housing. Next focuses mainly on infills of the consolidated urban fabric. All projects have won first or second prizes in international competitions and fill in the existing city or regenerated urban voids with different former uses. 30 European and American projects by 29 different young architectural practices are analyzed; amongst these are BIG + Topotek1, atelier Kempe Thill, Maccreanor Lavington, and babled nouvet Reynaud.

A thick volume packed with thirty urban projects, 'The Public Chance' forms in some respects a follow up to the earlier series 'In Common'. This new collection focuses on additional designs for collective public spaces and in so doing offers a renewed vision of both new interventions and earlier presented and now completed projects. Works presented have been divided into four thematic sections, respectively: peripheral voids, waterfronts, industrial areas and infrastructure, and are generously illustrated with colour photographs, plans, elevations and technical details.

Both in cities and regional areas around the world, housing developments continue to face challenges for architects both in terms of providing attractive levels of accommodation and embracing efficient standards for sustainability. This compendium systematically examines a total of sixty four recently completed collective housing projects allowing for a comparison both through documentation and density values.
