This volume completes the coverage of organocopper compounds, with a forthcoming complete formula and ligand index for the Gmelin organocopper series. It details mononuclear compounds with ligands bonded by two or more carbon atoms, along with di- to octanuclear and polymeric compounds. Mononuclear compounds with ligands bonded by one carbon atom were previously described in Volumes 1, 2, and 3. Structural elucidation in organocopper chemistry has gained more attention recently, leading to the use of terms like "mononuclear" and "dinuclear" as explained in earlier volumes. Most species discussed in volumes 1 to 3 were based on limited structural information, even if they were not strictly monomeric. The current volume includes better-characterized compounds, evidenced by over eighty X-ray structure figures. Nuclearity and structure are influenced not only by the ligands' coordination properties but also by steric requirements, which can vary widely among similar compounds. For abbreviations and dimensions used throughout this volume, refer to page X. This work was completed in Frankfurt am Main in July 1987 by Johannes Fussel, with most compounds and reagents presented in tables.
