Chicago, 1893. Une foule immense afflue des quatre coins des Etats-Unis pour admirer l'Exposition universelle. Ses architectes, qui voulaient créer une cité de rêve, la surnommèrent la Ville Blanche. Profitant des travaux liés à cette grandiose installation, G. Gordon Gregg a fait construire une demeure imposante, sorte de château gothique destiné à héberger le visiteur de passage.
