The role of the architect has evolved significantly in a globalized society, diverging from traditional training models. Today, the focus extends beyond mere building to encompass new approaches and pathways in design. This shift is explored through the insights of renowned authors, who are also professors actively engaged in contemporary architectural research. They utilize their design studio work from prestigious institutions like ETH Zürich and EPFL Lausanne to illustrate key topics, linking them to applied research and practice. Reto Geiser, an architect with a background from ETH Zürich and Columbia University, is a prominent figure in this exploration. He has served as a William Muschenheim Fellow and lecturer, and is currently a doctoral candidate at the ETH Zürich's Institut gta. Alongside his academic pursuits, Geiser engages in projects at the intersection of architecture, installation, and visual culture. He directs the series "Standpunkte: Informelle Gespräche zur zeitgenössischen ArchitekturKultur" in Basel and is curating the Swiss contribution to the XI Biennale of Architecture in Venice, using the exhibition as a catalyst for further exploration of architectural themes.
