Since its first edition in 1920, "Fitschen" has proven to be a reliable guide for identifying trees and shrubs native to Central Europe, as well as those found in parks and gardens. The introductory chapters provide detailed insights into nomenclature and systematics, morphology, and the geographical origins of these plants, along with their soil requirements and more. Various identification keys allow for the clear identification of woody plants throughout the year, based on vegetative characteristics, flower features, buds, and branches in winter, and fruits. A completely new feature is the alphabetically organized description of over 1,700 species by genus and family. The extensive revisions in this edition, along with many new illustrations, have further tailored "Fitschen" to meet practical needs.
