The sedate life of Trevor Rodin and his wife, living along the Cornish coast, is brought to a sudden end when an oil tanker runs aground, causing a spill that leads to the death of Rodin's wife, Karen. Trevor then enlists on a quest for revenge that carries him to the Persian Gulf, Gibraltar, and the islands of Madeira.
