Desire and its Interpretation

Évaluation du livre

En savoir plus sur le livre

Desire and its Interpretation is the title Lacan gave to his seminar in 1958-59. Since then, 'desire' has become an increasingly familiar term, in a sense replacing classical terms of psychoanalysis, such as libido and drive. What is psychoanalysis? It is reading, that is, interpreting, in the symptom causing suffering, the hidden message that the unconscious desire has deposited there. This desire does not coincide at all with what one wants or believes one wants. Many times, analyses begin precisely when the subject realizes that there is a split between their conscious will and their unconscious desire.
