LGBQ Legislators in Canadian Politics

The book explores the influence of LGBQ politicians in Canada on the representation of LGBTQ communities. Through analysis of parliamentary speeches and interviews with 28 out LGBQ parliamentarians from 2017 to 2020, it reveals how these politicians advocate for LGBTQ rights by introducing legislation, lobbying, and engaging with both the LGBTQ movement and government. They serve as role models, particularly for youth, and help reduce stigma around sexuality and gender identity. The work emphasizes the necessity of political representation for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 16.
