A Fuller Understanding of the Paintings at Orsay

This new publication on the collections of paintings at the Musée d'Orsay takes a truly different, dual approach: it provides both chronological pages and also theme-based comparisons, where the eyes of the various painters meet, sometimes glaringly.This book thus naturally reviews the great movements in the history of painting between 1848 and 1914, rubbing shoulders with one another almost every decade.It also features a thematic approach, whereby the works are gathered together around common subjects, outlining differences and similarities.
