This expansive work is intended to be used as a clinical reference for non-specialists and those in other areas as well as by specialists in liver disease. This new textbook includes uniquesections on symptoms and signs of liver disease, rare diseases involving the liver, industrial diseases affecting the liver, the effects of diseases of other systems on the liver, and the effect of liver disease on other systems. The section on viral hepatitis includes chapters on hepatitis C and E,and the effects of bacterial, fungal, and parasitic diseases on the liver. Liver disease in the elderly and in children, in pregnant women, in drug addicts, and in homosexuals are fully covered. The section on the management of liver diseases deals with the general management, nutrition, andprescribing for other conditions when liver disease is present. There are major chapters on hepatocellular carcinoma, and on transplantation. An appendix contains the sheets on patient education produced by the American Liver Foundation. There are also appendices covering the geography and historyof liver disease, and industrial liver disease.
