En savoir plus sur le livre
The Emerging Contours of the Medium delves into a vital aspect of media theory, particularly the 'mediality' of literature, which remains largely overlooked in media discussions. Despite a growing interest in the technological and media dimensions of literature over recent decades, the concept of the medium has not been effectively integrated into literary studies. This work addresses the mutual neglect of literature's specific mediality within the broader media/lity framework in media science. Contributors explore the conditions necessary for developing a media-theoretical framework that situates literature as a medium. Available for the first time in English, the text is divided into three parts, aligning with key research areas for a media theory of literature. Part I examines the (pre)history of media thinking, establishing the principles for genealogical integration. Part II focuses on media philosophy and media anthropology. Part III investigates how media, as dispositifs linking perception and communication, reveal emergent media phenomena, whether through interactions between different media, between media artifacts, or between humans and technology.
