Flappy Scott-Booth is de trotse bewoonster van het huis, samen met haar man Kenneth, een succesvolle zakenman die in zijn jonge jaren fortuin maakte met een fastfoodketen en die nu al zijn tijd spendeert op zijn eigen golfbaan. Ondanks haar zestig jaar ziet -Flappy er nog stralend uit; haar leven lijkt een perfecte droom. Als een echtpaar dat overduidelijk nóg rijker is dan zij een paar kilo-meter verderop een nóg groter en chiquer huis betrekt, voelt de competitieve Flappy zich uitgedaagd om de nieuwkomers te laten zien wie het belangrijkst is in het dorp. Wat ze niet verwacht is dat ze, terwijl ze indruk probeert te maken op deze Charles en Hedda, tot over haar oren verliefd wordt op Charles. Een heerlijk, lang vergeten gevoel, maar ineens is ze niet meer altijd in control - en ook in haar omgeving blijft dat niet onopgemerkt. Is ze bereid om alles op het spel te zetten waarvoor ze al die jaren zo hard heeft gewerkt?

Om het bezoekersaantal van hun hotel weer wat aan te laten trekken, willen de eigenaren een schilder inhuren. De eerste aanmeldingen vallen tegen, maar de laatste kandidaat, een mysterieuze Argentijn, maakt gelijk indruk.
