The ISF Welding Institute embarks on a journey to China, echoing Marco Polo's historic exploration, during a time of new challenges. The inaugural International Aachen/Beijing Welding Conference marks a significant milestone in the long-standing collaboration between Chinese scientists and the ISF. Chinese students, doctoral candidates, and researchers have enriched the Institute’s environment, fostering scientific exchange and offering valuable cultural insights. The partnership between Tsinghua University and RWTH Aachen University is exemplified through joint master’s programs in “Production Engineering” and “Automotive Systems Engineering.” Recently, Chinese students began their studies in Aachen, while German students are set to study in Beijing next autumn, potentially establishing a new Silk Road of Science focused on sharing knowledge and experience. The desire to witness China's economic growth and rich cultural heritage drives this initiative, as the nation emerges as a leading global market. The conference aims to enhance scientific collaboration and deepen understanding between future partners. The theme “Joining Together” reflects the dual purpose of discussing both material and human connections. The Conference Proceedings provide an overview of research from Tsinghua University and ISF, highlighting the importance of ongoing scientific exchange and showcasing diverse research projects.
