En savoir plus sur le livre
This anthology explores the "environment" of "research" through the lens of "field research," examining its broader contexts within the entire research process. It highlights the experiences and outcomes of field researchers from various disciplines who have collaborated with the Phonogrammarchiv over the years, where their audiovisual recordings are preserved for further academic study. The book comprises five chapters focusing on: "general – individual: field research," "oral tradition – spiritual experience – surreal communication: ethnology," "multi-dimensional: ethnomusicology," "documentation – standardisation – analysis: linguistics and discourse analysis," and "traditional structure – virtual access – permanent availability: archivistics." It aims to revitalize and expand discussions surrounding field research as a vital tool in cultural studies. In his introductory essay, Andre Gingrich notes that scholars have become more modest and self-critical in their self-image, which has led to a more careful and flexible approach to listening and observing. Many contributions within the volume reflect these self-reflective new forms of realism, emphasizing the evolving nature of field research in contemporary scholarship.
