"Where the Rain Falls" project, case study: India

En savoir plus sur le livre

The Where the Rain Falls project investigates how changes in rainfall interact with societies. Findings from all case studies confirm that rainfall variability and food insecurity are key drivers for human mobility. The India case study was conducted in Janjgir-Champa District, Chhattisgarh State. The scientific findings show that migration is one of the most important strategies employed by the residents of the study sites to cope with rainfall variability and food insecurity. Nevertheless, it was also found that migration does not increase resilience or provide better long-term options; it rather is a last resort for resource-poor and landless households.
