Songs of Travel: Voice and Orchestra

The orchestral cycle Songs of Travel features settings of poems by Robert Louis Stevenson, showcasing a blend of historical and contemporary orchestration. Three new songs are orchestrated by the composer himself from 1905, while the remaining pieces were arranged by Roy Douglas in 1960, including the previously lost epilogue "I have trod the upward and the downward path." Douglas reflects on his choices in orchestration, aiming for a balance between Vaughan Williams' original style and his own, resulting in a distinctly British interpretation of the music.
