Focusing on the socio-economic challenges in Buea, this study explores the impact of local governance on rural development within the context of Cameroon’s decentralized systems. It highlights the unique demographic and ecological characteristics of the South West Province, arguing that political empowerment is essential for development. The research examines how devolving power from the central government to local governments can enhance responsiveness to community needs, emphasizing the importance of effective political decentralization for local empowerment and growth.
