Culture-specific empirical studies in the interdisciplinary field of International Human Resource Management (IHRM) are very much needed especially when it comes to the development of training for expatriate managers working in an international context. This book, based on a PhD thesis by the author, is a study of German expatriates and their spouses living in the Republic of Ireland. Examining in detail three of the four stages of the expatriation cycle, namely the selection, preparation and adjustment of the expatriates, the aim of the study was to develop expatriate and intercultural training based on need areas and attitudes to training. This book endeavours to contribute to a better understanding of the IHRM of German expatriates, to German-Irish business relations and the conception of expatriate training and support.

    • This edited collection offers fresh insights into the image of Ireland and the Irish in Germany, both past and present. It brings together contributions by scholars from diverse academic fields, including history, literature, critical discourse analysis and cultural studies, to provide a trans-disciplinary, multifaceted perspective on aspects of Irish-German relations. The volume focuses, in particular, on perceptions of Ireland and the reception of Irish culture and literature in Germany at various points in time from the late medieval period to the present day. The broad scope of the book reveals important connections in the historical evolution of Ireland’s image in Germany, while also exploring more recent developments in the context of current economic and social crises.
