Das Bure ist eine west-tschadische Sprache, die im gleichnamigen Ort in Bauchi, Nigeria, gesprochen wird. Aufgrund des Einflusses der Hausa ist die Zahl der Bure-Sprecher in den letzten Jahrzehnten dramatisch gesunken: Von etwa 500 Angehörigen der Bure-Ethnie sprechen heute nur noch 30-50 aktiv diese Sprache. Daher gilt Bure als stark vom Aussterben bedroht, da es mit dem Tod der wenigen älteren Sprecher ausgelöscht sein wird. Rudolf Leger klassifizierte Bure in den 1980er-Jahren als Bole-Tangale-Sprache. Die Sprache ist weitgehend undokumentiert, da bisher keine umfassende grammatische Beschreibung vorliegt. Das Buch schließt diese Lücke und bietet eine detaillierte Übersicht über das Bure. Es behandelt Phonologie, Nominalmorphologie, Pronominal- und Verbalsystem, Syntax sowie Semantik. Der deskriptive Teil wird durch ein soziolinguistisches Profil der Sprache ergänzt. Zudem enthält das Werk zwei Bure-Texte mit Glossierung und Übersetzungen ins Englische und Hausa, ein Foto-Porträt der Bure-Siedlungen sowie ein dreisprachiges Wörterverzeichnis (Bure–Englisch–Hausa).

This edited book deals with the linguistic encoding of emotions in the following African the Bantu-Botatwe group, Wolof, Dogon, Hausa, Igbo, Nigerian English Pidgin, Tupuri, and Akan. The contributions included in the volume present a variety of approaches and research perspectives ranging from historical linguistics and ethnoliniguistics to cultural-cognitive and discourse analysis.
