Langsam aber sicher erkennen wir, dass sich die bisherigen Entwicklungsmodelle überlebt haben und schnell neue Wege der Nachhaltigkeit gefunden werden müssen – auch und gerade in der Stadtplanung und Regionalentwicklung, beim Umgang mit Raum und vor allem mit Menschen und deren Institutionen. Erderwärmung, Artensterben, Wachstumspeak, Energiekrisen, globale Migration, Ungleichheit und Ungerechtigkeit sind Symptome eines Planungs- und Entwicklungsmodells, das dringend einer grundlegenden Reform bedarf. In diesem Band setzen sich zwanzig junge Forscherinnen und Forscher mit ihren eigenen Perspektiven und den Chancen nachhaltiger Raumentwicklung auseinander. Regions are experiencing a renaissance in our globalized world, emerging as essential spaces for identity, planning, and economics, while also becoming autonomous energy systems. They play a crucial role in achieving a future free from carbon emissions and nuclear energy. Resilient energy systems based on renewable sources can develop at the regional level, enhancing community health and security while generating significant economic benefits. The Lake Constance-Alpine Rhine area, spanning four central European countries, has the potential to become a model region by leveraging these opportunities and existing initiatives. This is exemplified by the multidisciplinary Lake Constance-Alpine Rhine Project, which investigates the energetic, organizational, and economic prospects of a renewably autonomous region. The authors present practical and exemplary approaches to regional and spatial development, transport, urban design, and architecture, highlighting the chances for growth and innovation in these areas. By focusing on local capabilities and collaborative efforts, regions can transform into sustainable energy hubs that contribute to a healthier and more secure future for their communities.
