"Two pieces for Orchestra" features two compositions by Anastasios Karamanlis, created years after his studies in Zürich. "Elegie" is romantic, while "Serenade" adopts a passacaglia form with a recurring theme. Instrument parts are available separately. Germany, 2020.
The "6 Songs for Soprano and Piano" based on verses from "The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam" were composed in Zurich around 1991. Nos. 3, 5, and 6 were performed on May 15, 1993, at Stadtcasino Basel.
Sollten wir warten? (should we wait?) „Warten ?“ means „Waiting ?“. Waiting for something to happen, wishing it does come someday is a very stressfull situation and not at all productive. It is also a very static one and can be very unpleasant. Therefore the question that arise is „should we wait?“ That is what is being expressed through this music. „Warten ?“ is my first composition for a full orchestra. The original title has been “Quartett für 4 Flötistinnen” since it was written for the “SAMO-Quartett“, which consisted of 4 female flute students at the Musikhochschule und Konservatorium Zürich”. The 3 parts of the composition are written for different instruments. Part I: 3 flutes in C, 1 flute in G (alt) Part II: 4 piccoli! Part III: the whole family: piccolo, flute in C, flute in G, bass flute Printed score was made on an Atari ST using Notator and HP Deskjet Plus. Instrument parts also exist.
„Sonatine für Klavier“ ist eine meiner letzten Kompositionen aus dem Sommer 1991, die ich auf einem Atari ST kopierte. Ich habe die originale Titelseite und handschriftliche Korrekturen erhalten. Während meines Studiums am Konservatorium in Zürich spielte ich das Stück ein Jahr später bei einem Studenten-Konzert und habe eine Aufnahme davon auf meinem YouTube-Kanal.
Komponiert 1988 in Zürich für ein Holzbläserquartett, basiert das Werk auf dem Weihnachtslied 'Adeste fideles' und umfasst fünf Variationen. Besetzt ist es mit Flöte, Oboe, Klarinette in b und Fagott.
Είναι η ιστορία του Εγία, ενός νεαρού μουσικού που πηγαίνει σε μια ξένη χώρα για να συνεχίσει τις σπουδές του ως μαέστρος. Πρόκειται για έναν άλλο πλανήτη σε μακρινό Γαλαξία, πολύ πιο προχωρημένο από την δική του χώρα την Γη. Στην ξένη αυτή χώρα, η οποία παρέχει πολλές ευκολίες και δυνατότητες στον πολίτη χάρη στην ύπαρξη υπολογιστών που αυτοματοποιούν πολλές εργασίες, ο Εγίας σύντομα θα κάνει μερικές πολύ δυσάρεστες διαπιστώσεις. Πίσω από την πρόσοψη της προόδου κρύβεται μια αυστηρή και στείρα κοινωνία, η οποία καταδυναστεύει τους πολίτες με ποικίλους τρόπους. Κάθε αντίσταση είναι αδύνατη ή μάλλον σχεδόν αδύνατη. Γιατί ο Εγίας μέσα από τις αναζητήσεις του σύντομα θα αντιληφθεί τι συμβαίνει και θα προσπαθήσει να αντιδράσει με την βοήθεια ενός... Το μυθιστόρημα γράφτηκε το 2000 και έχει στοιχεία που ανήκουν καθαρά στον χώρο της επιστημονικής φαντασίας, τα οποία ωστόσο με την σημερινή εξέλιξη της ρομποτικής και του αυτοματισμού αποδεικνύονται όχι και τόσο φανταστικά. It's the story of Egias, a young musician who goes to a foreign country to continue his studies as a conductor. That new country is a planet in a distant Galaxy, much more advanced than its own land, which is called Earth. n this foreign country, which offers citizens many opportunities thanks to the existence of computers performing automatically many tasks, Egias will soon find out some very unpleasant truths. Behind the facade of progress lies a strict and sterile society, which oppresses its citizens in many ways. Any resistance is impossible or almost impossible. Egias will soon realize what is going on and will try react with the help of a ... The novel was written in year 2000 and has science fiction elements, which with the current evolution in robotics and automation prove to be not so fictional after all.
Το „Κολωνάκι“ γράφτηκε στις αρχές του 2000 μαζί με άλλα δύο διηγήματα. Πρόκειται για ένα διαφορετικό αστυνομικό, όπου το ενδιαφέρον επικεντρώνεται στο ψυχογράφημα των χαρακτήρων και όχι τόσο στην εξιχνίαση του εγκλήματος. Ωστόσο η ιστορία δεν τελειώνει με την αστυνομική πλοκή, η εξέλιξη παραμένει μέχρι το τέλος άγνωστη και είναι αυτό που κρατά την ένταση στον αναγνώστη.
“Christina“ is my third and so far my last piece written for a band. All those compositions are very different in style, “Christina” and “Walzer” being tonal. This last piece reminds of a summer festival maybe with a turning carousel. Being written in 3/4, it has also the character of a waltz. The instruments of the band are the following: Flute, Clarinet in Sib, 3 Saxes (S-A-T), Trumpets in Sib, Flicorno Mib, Flicorno Sib(Bombardino), Bariton(Euphonium or Trombone), Basso (Tuba), Percussions(Cassa, Tamburo, Piatti).
