The thesis details groundbreaking measurements of charmed D0 meson production in Pb-Pb collisions at 2.76 TeV and p-Pb collisions at 5.02 TeV, utilizing the ALICE detector at CERN. It reveals that low-momentum charm quarks engage in the collective dynamics of the dense medium created during heavy-ion collisions, despite their mass. The findings suggest charm hadronization occurs through recombination with light quarks and involves collisional energy loss. Additionally, the D0 production in p-Pb collisions helps distinguish effects from cold nuclear matter versus those from the hot medium in Pb-Pb interactions.
