In recent decades, research on ancient Greek scholarship has experienced a significant resurgence, highlighted by the publication of handbooks, reference works, and new text editions. This revival enhances our understanding of ancient scholarship and reshapes how we discuss these texts, addressing various editorial and exegetical challenges. This volume emerges from a three-year project funded by the Italian Ministry for Education, University and Research (MIUR), focusing on the critical re-appraisal of Homer, Hesiod, Pindar, and Aeschylus in Greek culture from antiquity to the Middle Ages. It explores key issues, including the transmission of exegesis from papyri to codices, the analysis of previously unexplored manuscript evidence, significant scholia discussions, and the role of indirect tradition in the assimilation of exegetical heritage within grammatical and lexicographical works. By employing an interdisciplinary methodology that combines modern editorial techniques for ‘problematic’ medieval texts with contemporary trends in philology and literary criticism, the volume offers fresh evaluations of various strands of ancient and medieval scholarship. The diverse papers provide readers with an excellent overview of the project's topics.
