Rheological measurements are crucial for optimizing the application of building materials, gaining increasing attention in civil engineering. Recent advancements in testing equipment and research have enhanced understanding in this field. Conferences, such as the 28th Conference on the Rheology of Building Materials at the OTH, have facilitated the exchange of findings and networking opportunities. A key focus has been balancing rheological theory with practical applications, addressing topics like self-compacting concrete, tremie concrete, and mortar mixes for 3D printing, all classified under self-compacting concretes. Understanding time- and temperature-dependent changes in workability is vital for effective use of these materials. The mixing energy and casting/spraying methods significantly affect rheological properties. The rheology of various concrete types can change drastically due to vibrational compaction. While paste content and the rheology of the paste govern concrete rheology, testing pastes is simpler due to the absence of aggregate particle migration. This raises questions about the adequacy of paste measurement results for assessing concrete and how to determine optimized paste content. Additionally, the role of admixtures and additives, including superplasticizers, stabilizers, and entrained air, in enhancing different application processes is explored.
