The starting point for Sebastian-Dominik Jais’ dissertation is the limited research on the relationship between national culture and information use, despite their relevance. Jais seeks to better understand how national culture influences information usage by conducting a survey with asset managers from a prominent global company in Germany, South Korea, and the United States. Given the scarcity of existing knowledge, he adopts an explorative approach. His findings indicate that differences among the samples emerge primarily when the type of information use is not dictated by technical requirements or specific tasks. Thus, national culture's influence is evident only when users have some freedom in task execution. Additionally, Jais’ research offers initial evidence of cross-national effects on managerial information use, revealing that power distance and uncertainty avoidance significantly impact this use. These results support Hofstede’s predictions and highlight that not all cultural dimensions equally influence managerial behavior.
