The ongoing social and economic dynamics present new challenges for organizations striving for sustainability, particularly in management practices, working conditions, innovation, and workplace quality of life. The human service industry faces significant hurdles in creating and maintaining healthy workplaces that engage employees for high productivity and quality service delivery. A comprehensive understanding of the evolving realities and critical processes influencing worker efficiency is essential for designing effective interventions and enhancing human services management. For over 25 years, the European Network of Organizational Psychologists (ENOP) has hosted conferences to analyze the implications of a rapidly changing work environment in Europe, addressing key issues in work and organizational psychology, healthcare, and occupational health. The Xith European Conference on Organizational Psychology and Human Service Work, held in Lisbon in October 2009, centered on "new challenges and interventions in psychosocial work environments." This volume features ten peer-reviewed contributions from authors across seven European countries, organized into two sections: the first examines the work environment and employee well-being in human services, while the second focuses on healthy workplace factors and interventions within the sector.
