Human beings, the most advanced species on Earth, have been reduced from over seven billion to one billion in a matter of days meaning the human race is an endangered species. Using mirrors, windows, lakes and puddles, these ethereal beings, the Outsiders, come through the reflections to occupy the bodies of unsuspecting humans. The humans that are left are known as The Remainders and live in constant fear of being targeted by the 'capture squads' to round up those not already taken.
