Schließlich ins KZ Auschwitz eingeliefert, bildete ihn ein SS-Mann zum Boxer aus, der auf Leben und Tod Schaukämpfe vor den Wachmannschaften absolvieren musste. Haft überlebte unter unvorstellbaren Umständen, schmuggelte in München Zigaretten für US-amerikanische Offiziere, wurde später Profiboxer in den USA, wo er u. a. gegen den legendären Rocky Marciano kämpfte. Erst kürzlich, in hohem Alter, offenbarte sich Haft seinem Sohn.
