The case of the city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo: Towards greater resilience to disasters

      • 3 heures de lecture

The city of Goma faces significant risks due to its geographical location near the active Nyiragongo volcano and Lake Kivu, which harbors dangerous methane deposits. Historical eruptions, including those in 2002 and 2021, have caused destruction and displacement. Additionally, unchecked urban development heightens vulnerability to fires. This study aims to assess the population's awareness and understanding of these hazards to enhance their resilience against future disasters, focusing on their knowledge of the risks they face.
