On October 7, 1988, an Inuit hunter discovered three California Gray whales trapped in Arctic ice. Unlike past incidents, this time a diverse group—including oil executives, Greenpeace activists, and military officers—united to rescue the whales. The story is also adapted into a film featuring Drew Barrymore and Ted Danson.
