It investigates how this world-view influences social order and political relations within the community. The research aims to delineate the complex processes that shape group life among the Basaa, exploring their modes of thinking and underlying values to provide deeper insights into their societal dynamics.

The book explores the concept of avuncular relationships within the Basaa people's social structure, particularly focusing on the term "yandom," which signifies both offspring and members of a mother's patriclan. It delves into the dynamics of these relationships, highlighting the rights and attitudes associated with them. Through a detailed examination of Basaa ideology of descent, the study provides insights into how kinship and social roles are defined and understood within this cultural context.

The book explores the roots of authoritarian governance in Cameroon, tracing its origins back to French colonial practices. It argues that colonialism ingrained the belief that authoritarian rule was legitimate and that force was an acceptable means of control. The leadership established post-decolonization was essentially a puppet regime, comprised of local figures who were chosen by the French to uphold their interests. This arrangement perpetuated a system where the leaders remained disconnected from the populace, prioritizing colonial legacies over democratic engagement.
